Ryan’s Pet Foods in North Burlington officially opened on Nov 3/01, the end result of an event that happened two years earlier when we had the privilege of knowing Wesley, our feisty West Highland Terrier.
From the outside, Wesley looked strong and healthy, but he began to experience unbearable pain whenever he urinated. We learned that he had an inoperable prostate tumor, a rare condition for a male who had been neutered at the right age. Only 9 years old, sadly we put our friend to sleep.
The emptiness and grief were intolerable and a short while later we brought home another “Westie”, an eight week old bundle of energy whom we have named Geordie.
During Wesley’s illness, we had only just begun researching alternative pet foods and discovering the link between ingredients and health. While too late for him, we were determined to give Geordie the best foods and supplements available.
Opening our own store was a natural extension of our learning and growing experiences with Wesley. The sharing of ideas and information to improve health through natural means is paramount to us. If we could extend or heighten the quality of our loved ones lives with minimal effort, would that not also enrich our lives?
